Nigeria’s national high jump record holder, Temitope Adeshina, will back grassroots athletics by sponsoring the women’s high jump competition at the Athletic Heat 10th Anniversary Meet. The meet is set for Saturday, November 7, 2026, at YabaTech Stadium in Lagos, with N200,000 in prize money available for the leading four competitors. The champion will receive N100,000, while the runner-up will collect N50,000. Third place is worth N30,000 and fourth place N20,000.
Adeshina’s contribution comes after an exceptional 2026 campaign in which she won the NCAA indoor and outdoor high jump crowns representing Texas Tech Track & Field. The Commonwealth Games bronze medallist, who has also claimed African Championships silver twice, hopes to use her success to encourage and support emerging Nigerian track and field talent.
“It means a great deal to me to give something back to the sport that has given me so much,” Adeshina said. “I want to provide genuine opportunities for developing athletes to display their ability, earn recognition and access the financial help required to chase their ambitions in athletics.”
The sponsored event will form part of Athletic Heat’s 10-year celebration, staged under the theme, “10 Years of Impact. A Legacy That Keeps Running.” Throughout the past decade, Athletic Heat has focused on identifying grassroots athletes and helping to advance the sport across Nigeria.
“For 10 years, Athletic Heat has worked to empower young Nigerian athletes in track and field,” the organisers said. “The support of an international figure such as Temitope Adeshina for our 10th-anniversary competition offers major motivation and encouragement for the athletes who will compete in November.”
Competitors intending to take part in the anniversary meet in Lagos have been urged to register online through A3 Tickets.
