Nigeria’s Falconets are ready to begin their 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup campaign, head coach Moses Aduku said ahead of their Group F opener against Spain.
The match will be played at Arena Sosnowiec on Monday, September 7, with Poland hosting the tournament.
Quick facts
- Fixture: Nigeria vs Spain
- Competition: 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, Group F
- Venue: Arena Sosnowiec, Poland
- Date: Monday, September 7
- Nigeria’s previous meeting with Spain at this tournament ended in a 2-1 quarter-final defeat in 2018
Aduku was pleased with the team’s build-up, including their friendly against Korea Republic. He nevertheless believed Nigeria failed to take full advantage of the chances created in that game.
“It was a very positive match for us,” Aduku said. “We let one or two opportunities slip that could have brought a win, but Korea are a strong team and I respect them.”
With the preparation fixtures now finished, the coach said the squad’s focus is firmly on Spain.
“We are prepared, and that is the reason we came to Poland,” he said. “Our approach is to handle each match separately. Right now, Spain is the only game in front of us, and we are ready for it.”
The Falconets will also go into the opener without any injury problems, Aduku confirmed.
“Everything is going well,” he said. “The friendlies are behind us, the team is in good shape and there are no injury concerns. The players are ready, so we are looking forward to September 7 and the game against Spain.”
Nigeria will be seeking to avoid a repeat of their most recent U-20 World Cup encounter with the Spaniards. Spain edged the Falconets 2-1 in the quarter-finals of the 2018 edition in France.
