Algeria Defeat Morocco on Penalties to Secure WAFCON Bronze

Algeria secured the bronze medal after edging Morocco 3-2 in a penalty shootout, following a 1-1 draw in the third-place play-off.

Morocco took control of the match first, as Kautar Azraf scored to put the Atlas Lionesses ahead before the interval.

The North Africans appeared to extend their advantage after Maryam Atiq found the target in the second half. The effort was ruled out, however, leaving Morocco only 1-0 in front.

Algeria kept pressing in search of an equaliser and were rewarded in the 83rd minute when Lina Boussaha made it 1-1.

With neither team able to produce a decisive goal before the end of normal time, the bronze-medal contest was settled by penalties.

Algeria held their nerve to win the shootout 3-2, confirming a third-place finish and taking home the bronze.

Morocco were left in fourth place after surrendering their lead late in a closely contested battle.
