Amy Okonkwo joins Portland Fire after Sarah Ashlee Barker injury setback

Nigeria forward Amy Okonkwo has signed for WNBA team Portland Fire, taking the roster spot left open by the injured Sarah Ashlee Barker.

The two-time Women’s AfroBasket MVP is returning to the league after appearing in eight games for the Dallas Wings in 2025, recording averages of 11 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.4 steals.

Earlier this year, Okonkwo also spent a short period with the Atlanta Dream, where she was brought in on a developmental contract.

The move provides the Nigerian international with another chance to demonstrate her ability on one of women’s basketball’s premier platforms.
