ANOC Africa has praised the Nigeria Olympic Committee for the country’s strong showing at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
In a message sent on Tuesday, August 18, to NOC president Engr. Habu Gumel, ANOC Africa chief Mustapha Berraf highlighted Nigeria’s haul of 24 medals: 10 gold, seven silver and seven bronze. He said the performance underlined Africa’s rising position in international sport.
Berraf attributed the outcome to sustained preparation, a well-defined sporting strategy and the continued dedication of everyone working to advance sport in Nigeria.
He also stressed that the achievement carried importance beyond Nigeria’s borders, saying it reflected across the continent and showed once again that African countries are exerting greater influence on the global sporting stage. The success, he added, could inspire young Africans by presenting Nigerian athletes as examples of determination, discipline and excellence.
Nigeria’s final Commonwealth Games record was 24 medals, comprising 10 gold, seven silver and seven bronze.
Berraf said the result further demonstrated the expanding impact of African nations in international competition and reiterated ANOC Africa’s backing for Nigeria’s ongoing sporting development.
