Ubah served as chairman of the Anambra State Football Association between 2016 and 2020, and his leadership is credited with helping shape the growth of football across the state.
During his time in charge, he launched the “One Family, One Footballer” programme, an initiative that later attracted global attention. It was highlighted during the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, with FIFA President Gianni Infantino in attendance.
In 2016, Ubah also played a key role in securing a landmark partnership between FC Ifeanyi Ubah and English Premier League side West Ham United. The deal was framed as a major move toward boosting Nigerian and African football.
His club went on to win the 2016 President Federation Cup, overcoming Nasarawa United 5-4 on penalties at Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos. FC Ifeanyi Ubah then carried that momentum into continental competition, representing Nigeria in the 2017 CAF Confederation Cup.
Ubah, a businessman and politician, passed away on July 27, 2024. The Chief Chikelue Iloenyosi-led ANSFA board says the planned novelty match is intended to honour his lasting contributions to the sport.
