Nigeria’s Godday Appah is set to meet Ghanaian Seth “Freezy Macbones” Gyimah for the WBO African Light Heavyweight Continental Championship on Thursday, October 1, 2026. The contest will take place at The Balmoral inside Lagos’ Federal Palace Hotel as part of the Chaos in the Ring event.
The headline fight will form part of Nigeria’s Independence Day celebrations, with boxers from across Africa scheduled to appear and a continental crown on the line in a Nigeria-Ghana contest.
The rivalry has already produced fireworks outside the ring. Appah and Gyimah clashed during a press conference and face-off in Lagos, suggesting their championship meeting could be fought with considerable intensity.
The programme will also include a celebrity bout featuring content creator Oderhohwo Joseph Efe, better known as Carter Efe, and rapper Darlington Okoye, who performs as Speed Darlington. Efe declared that he planned to end the fight quickly, while Okoye maintained that he had prepared thoroughly and believed he would win.
The professional undercard will see Basit “Jokerboy” Adebayo take on Fatiu Jomoni; Eworitse “African King” Arenyeka face Lekan “The Engine” Muibi; Yusuf “Swaggu” Adeniji meet Tagoe; Israel Makinde box Abiodun Muyideen; and Rimpassakde “The King Cobra” Kinda go up against Rosnov.
Dr Ezekiel Adamu, founder of Chaos in the Ring and Balmoral Group Promotions, said the event was created to establish a base for African boxing while showcasing the continent’s fighters to audiences worldwide. Adamu said the sport was “never about perfection” but instead about maintaining forward movement, and described the event as featuring “a great number of exciting fights.”
