Super Eagles forward Tolu Arokodare has brought up 100 professional goals after inspiring Ajax to a 2-0 UEFA Conference League win over Atalanta on Thursday.
Quick facts
- Arokodare came on in the 66th minute against Atalanta.
- He scored Ajax’s opener in the 87th minute.
- The Nigerian then set up Abdellah Ouazane in stoppage time.
- His career total now stands at 100 goals.
The striker made an immediate impact after his introduction, ending the deadlock three minutes from time. He then supplied the pass for Ouazane to add a second in added time and secure the result.
Arokodare marked the personal landmark with a message of thanks to God and to those who have supported him during his rise in European football.
“100 career goals. I am grateful for the journey and for the road God has created for me,” he wrote. “It is because of Him and everyone who has helped me along the way that I have reached this point, and I am thankful. The journey goes on. God is the greatest.”
His 100 goals have been spread across several clubs and international football. He scored 22 times for Valmiera FC in Latvia, 21 goals for French side Amiens SC and 41 during his time at Belgian club KRC Genk.
He also registered six goals for Wolverhampton Wanderers and has scored twice for Nigeria. His latest Ajax tally has reached eight, taking him to the century.
After the Atalanta match, Arokodare said he would welcome a longer stay in the Netherlands if Ajax decide to trigger the purchase option included in his loan agreement from Wolves.
“Of course, I am open to it,” Arokodare said. “I like being here and I love being here. The people, supporters, team and club are all amazing.”
