Mikel Arteta believes Arsenal’s achievements so far represent “only the beginning” after committing his future to the Premier League champions by signing a contract that runs until 2030.
- Earlier this month, it was reported that Arsenal and Arteta had reached an agreement on an enhanced new deal.
- The Spaniard’s previous contract had been due to end after the current campaign. Having taken charge in December 2019, the extension could take his Arsenal tenure to 10 years.
- Arteta compared his value with leading managers including Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone, who is reported to earn more than £20m annually, and former Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola.
- His revised agreement raises his existing £10m-a-year pay package, which also included up to £5m in bonus payments.
“This club is unique, its character and the way it makes you feel, and I have a great sense of privilege that our journey together will continue,” Arteta said.
“We have already formed a special connection and made memories that will stay with us for life. The exciting part is that this is just the start of what we can accomplish together.”
The 44-year-old has led Arsenal to Premier League and FA Cup success, although his side were beaten by Paris St-Germain in the Champions League final in May.
