Aston Villa have brought in Japan goalkeeper Zion Suzuki from Parma, giving Unai Emery another major option ahead of the upcoming Premier League campaign.
Quick facts
- Transfer fee: €30 million, plus up to €5 million in additional payments
- Suzuki, 23, has agreed a long-term contract with Villa
- The goalkeeper is a Japan international and a 2026 World Cup representative
The deal is worth an initial €30 million, with a possible €5 million more in bonuses. Suzuki arrives after building a reputation as one of Europe’s leading young goalkeepers.
His transfer comes shortly after Villa completed the arrival of Italy defender Matteo Ruggeri during a busy summer window. Suzuki had previously been pursued by Paris Saint-Germain, but that move fell through before Villa stepped in.
The goalkeeper spent the last two seasons with Parma, having moved to the Italian side from Belgian club Sint-Truiden in 2024. He has also become a consistent selection for Japan’s senior team and played for his country at the 2026 World Cup.
Villa are expected to pursue further defensive cover, with former Manchester United right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka reportedly identified as their next target. Emery’s squad-building work continues as the club prepares for another demanding season.
