Brighton will be without Nigerian forward Femi Azeez for Saturday’s Premier League meeting with Leeds United, although the Seagulls will aim to extend their impressive home form at the Amex.
Brighton seek another strong home performance
Albion head into the fixture after consecutive 4-0 victories over Tromso and Aston Villa. Leeds, however, present a significant challenge after opening the current Premier League season without defeat.
Injury updates before Leeds visit
Speaking at Friday’s press conference, Brighton head coach Fabian Hurzeler confirmed that Azeez is dealing with a minor injury and will miss this weekend’s match. He added that Chema could be considered as an alternative, while Azeez is expected to be assessed again ahead of the next fixture.
- Mats Wieffer is expected to remain sidelined until the international break.
- Georginio and Yasin Ayari could both be available for selection against Leeds.
- Kaoru Mitoma is scheduled to return after the international break.
Hurzeler described the injuries as particularly unfortunate, especially Wieffer’s setback, but said they also create an opening for other players to establish themselves. He stressed that the squad must manage the situation one day at a time.
Regarding Mitoma, the Brighton manager called for patience and expressed hope that the club’s other wingers would recover soon.
Recent meetings between the clubs
Brighton comfortably defeated Leeds 3-0 at the Amex in November. The reverse fixture at Elland Road in May produced a different outcome, with Leeds claiming a 1-0 victory through Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s late goal.
