Ugandan official Dixon Adol Okello has been selected by the Confederation of African Football as security officer for the second leg involving Rangers and MC Alger.
The appointment comes after Rangers raised concerns about the behaviour of some MC Alger supporters who travelled for the opening match. The Nigerian club alleged that an entry gate was forced and seats inside the stadium were damaged.
Rangers seek CAF action
- Rangers submitted a formal petition signed by general manager and chief executive officer Amobi Ezeaku.
- The club called for an investigation into the incidents surrounding the first leg.
- It also requested security guarantees for its travelling delegation ahead of the return fixture.
- Rangers asked CAF to consider staging the match without spectators.
Match officials confirmed
CAF has appointed Egypt’s Hisham Salaheldin Mostafa as match commissioner, while David Molise of Lesotho will take charge as referee.
Molise will be joined by assistants and a fourth official who are also from Lesotho. Togo’s Koku Ognankotan Ntale has been named referee assessor.
On the field, the Nigerian Professional Football League champions must again show discipline as they attempt to defend their advantage and secure a place in the group stage. Away from the pitch, Rangers are still waiting for CAF’s response to their security concerns. The source also referred to a Lagos 5-a-side championship without giving further information.
