CANAL+ has confirmed that the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games will be shown live across Sub-Saharan Africa on SuperSport.
The multi-sport festival, scheduled to run from 23 July to 2 August 2026 in Glasgow, Scotland, will be accessible to Access customers via DStv, DStv Stream, GOtv and GOtv Stream. In South Africa, SuperSport’s channels are provided by CANAL+ Africa to the licence holder, MultiChoice (Pty) LTD, which in turn delivers the DStv service to subscribers.
With more than 500 athletes from across Africa expected to compete in Glasgow 2026, the upcoming Games look set to be among the most eagerly awaited editions in recent memory. SuperSport will present the competition with its full broadcast capability over 11 days of packed sporting action.
To support comprehensive coverage, SuperSport will operate two Commonwealth Games-dedicated channels. They will focus on the headline athletes while also offering a carefully selected schedule spotlighting Africa’s leading medal contenders. Additional events will be broadcast via overflow channels across both linear television and streaming platforms. A third dedicated channel will highlight Mozambican athletes on SuperSport Maximo 2 and 3.
David Mignot, the CEO of CANAL+ Africa and MultiChoice, said: “We are happy to confirm the broadcast rights for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, which will be available on SuperSport for our DStv and GOtv Access subscribers, with a dedicated emphasis on the African athletes who will aim to make their nations and the continent proud at this major global sporting showcase. Our Commonwealth Games coverage also reflects our continued investment in making sure our audiences and subscribers receive the sports and entertainment content that matters most to them.”
The programme will include 10 sports and six para-sport disciplines, staged across four of Glasgow’s best-known venues: Scotstoun Stadium, the Scottish Event Campus, the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome and Arena, and the Tollcross International Swimming Centre.
Long- and middle-distance running from East Africa is expected to be a major feature, with Tanzania aiming to press for top honours through Alphonse Simbu, Gabriel Geay, Jackline Sakilu, Failuna Abdi Matanga and up-and-coming distance runner Joseph Panga.
Nigeria will head to Glasgow with one of the strongest line-ups on the continent, spearheaded by former world record holder Tobi Amusan and reigning Commonwealth long jump champion Ese Brume. The team also includes top-level weightlifters Rafiatu Lawal and Adijat Olarinoye, alongside continental shot put champion Chukwuebuka Enekwechi.
Ghana’s medal hopes are centred on a high-energy sprint group made up of Benjamin Azamati, Abdul-Rasheed Saminu, Joseph Paul Amoah and Edwin Gadayi. The country’s track-and-field challenge is further boosted by high jump standout Rose Amoanimaa Yeboah. Meanwhile, Portuguese-speaking African teams will be represented by boxers Alcinda Panguana, Rady Gramane and Ivanusa Moreira, as well as Cabo Verde hurdler Jordin Andrade and Angolan sprinter Marcos Santos.
Across the Francophone nations, athletics stars Soufiane El Bakkali and Marie-Josée Ta Lou-Smith headline an impressive roster that also includes Senegal’s Louis François Mendy and Cheikh Diouf, along with Côte d’Ivoire sprint sensation Arthur Cissé.
South African audiences will also be looking forward to the return of swimming icon Chad le Clos, who will be aiming to add to his notable Commonwealth medal haul. In athletics, sprint performer Akani Simbine is set to lead an exciting squad that also features world champion swimmer Pieter Coetzé, javelin star Jo-Anè van Dyk and promising 400m talent Lythe Pillay.
Viewers on DStv and GOtv will be able to follow the Games live on SS Variety 3 and SS Variety 4 across Southern Africa and SSAfrica 1 and SS Africa 2 in the rest of Africa. Those channels will be rebranded as SS Commonwealth 1 and SS Commonwealth 2, with dedicated coverage also available on SS Maximo 2 and 3.
SuperSport will provide real-time updates through SuperSport.com and SuperSport Blitz.
