UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin has dismissed the possibility of becoming FIFA president, while saying Gianni Infantino should resign or expect an opponent in the election at the FIFA Congress in Morocco in March 2027.
Ceferin rules out FIFA campaign
His position comes as Infantino faces growing scrutiny over a disputed plan to establish a company through which private investors could purchase interests in FIFA competitions, including World Cup commercial rights.
Commitment to UEFA and football governance
- Ceferin said he has no intention of challenging for the FIFA presidency.
- He reaffirmed his dedication to UEFA and stressed that preserving the trust and credibility of football’s governing bodies must remain a priority.
- He also disclosed that he and Infantino have not spoken since the investment plan became controversial.
Infantino’s position
Infantino has led FIFA since 2016 and secured another term without opposition in 2023. His next major electoral test is scheduled for the FIFA Congress in Morocco in March 2027, where Ceferin indicated that he should either leave office or face a challenger.
