Ruben Amorim handed his Milan players, including in-form winger Samuel Chukwueze, a break from training yesterday as the Rossoneri started looking ahead to Sunday’s Serie A opener at Torino.
The squad was not scheduled to report back to Milanello after a demanding weekend that involved travelling to Wroclaw, Poland, for the team’s last pre-season fixture. Milan defeated Manchester United 4-2 on Saturday, with Nigeria international Chukwueze among the scorers.
United took the lead within two minutes from a set piece, but Chukwueze restored parity shortly before the half-hour mark. The English side moved in front again early after the interval, only for Alphadjo Cisse to bring Milan level for a second time. Goncalo Ramos subsequently registered his first goal for the club, before Ruben Loftus-Cheek completed the scoring with Milan’s fourth.
Amorim had previously allowed the players three days away from football earlier in the week, following the squad’s tour of Austria and Indonesia. After the return journey from Poland, he chose to provide another recovery day instead of bringing the group straight back into training.
Work resumes today at Milanello, with the squad set to begin its formal build-up to Sunday’s trip to the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino. Torino will be managed by Ignazio Abate.
Goalkeeper Mike Maignan and midfielder Adrien Rabiot, who rejoined the group after Sunday’s session, are available for the match. Matteo Gabbia, Rafael Leao and Christian Pulisic are still being monitored, although Gabbia and Leao are expected to return to full training during the week and remain in contention for the visit to Turin.
