Confident FC Win First Bisi Afolayan Cup After Penalty Shootout Thriller

Confident FC claimed the Bisi Afolayan Cup for the first time, defeating Smart Strikers FC in a nerve-racking penalty shootout in the final of the grassroots competition’s second edition.

Appearing in the tournament for the first time, Confident FC completed an outstanding journey by beating holders Akanbite FC in the semi-finals and then overcoming Smart Strikers in a closely fought final. Neither side could find a goal during regulation time.

The debutants kept their composure from the spot to lift the prestigious trophy, finishing a campaign built on perseverance, collective effort and resolve.

Tournament founder Rev. Bisi Afolayan explained that the event was created to make football a vehicle for developing young people, identifying ability and encouraging constructive change in society.

“This cup goes beyond the game itself. Through sport, we hope to develop character, strengthen connections, uncover talent and provide young people with chances to succeed on the field and in life,” Afolayan said.

A total of 16 teams took part in the second edition, representing football clubs, churches and local communities. Fixtures were held at Alausa and Akinbo Playgrounds in Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State.

Glory Impact Christian Centre (GICC) of Olambe-Akute organised the competition, which has steadily expanded its role in youth empowerment and community involvement.

Support for the 2026 tournament came from Pocari Sweat, Calculus Integrated Concept, Gracelink Mentorship Academy, Deloxxy Couture, Da Google International, BukkFemm Bakery, Bisi Afolayan World Outreach, along with other sponsors and partners.
