Spain defender Marc Cucurella has turned a World Cup pledge into permanent ink, delivering on his promise to get a tattoo featuring national team coach Luis de la Fuente’s likeness.
The 28-year-old had previously said he would have the coach’s face tattooed on his body if Spain won the World Cup. After Spain overcame Argentina in the final, De la Fuente responded with a grin, suggesting he expected Cucurella to follow through.
On Tuesday, Cucurella made good on that commitment by getting an image of De la Fuente holding the World Cup tattooed on his left arm.
“Promise fulfilled,” Cucurella wrote in an Instagram post, sharing brief clips showing the tattoo being done.
Now at Real Madrid, Cucurella also brought a lucky charm to the tournament, carrying his wife’s pyjama top with him during Spain’s campaign. He started in all eight of Spain’s matches, contributing to seven clean sheets as the team went all the way.
