Delta State Sports Commission Executive Chairman Honourable Onoriode Joshua Oborevwori is in line for another major international honour after receiving a nomination for the Nigeria Universal Keystone Sport Awards (NUKSA) Sport Leadership Award in London.
The recognition strengthens the Delta sports administrator’s international profile while acknowledging his work in sports development, athlete welfare, grassroots talent identification and the management of sport across the state.
Oborevwori, also known as Onos, is expected to attend the second Nigeria Universal Keystone Sport Awards Gala on Thursday, September 3, 2026. The ceremony will take place at Ham Polo Club on Petersham Road in Richmond, London.
The nomination was formally communicated to the chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission in an invitation dated June 30, 2026. The organisers said it was based on his “outstanding contributions to sports administration” and “exceptional leadership in advancing sports development in Nigeria.”
They also pointed to Oborevwori’s leadership ability and Delta State’s sustained status as one of Nigeria’s foremost sporting centres. During his tenure, the commission has focused on improving athlete welfare, identifying talent at grassroots level, developing sports facilities, supporting young people and opening pathways for athletes to compete nationally and internationally.
The nomination carries added significance because of Delta’s outstanding record in Nigerian sport. The state has regularly produced elite competitors and made a major contribution to the country’s performances at leading domestic and global competitions.
NUKSA organisers said Oborevwori’s approach reflects the wider view that sport can promote youth empowerment, social progress and national cohesion.
The London gathering is expected to bring together sports legends, public officials, diplomatic representatives, business leaders, philanthropists, community figures, members of the Nigerian diaspora and other international stakeholders. Its programme will include a polo match, a red-carpet reception, the awards ceremony, fundraising initiatives, networking sessions and entertainment.
For Oborevwori, the nomination represents another international vote of confidence in his expanding reputation as a sports administrator and in his efforts to strengthen Delta State’s sporting culture. It will also give Delta athletes and the state’s wider investment in sports development a global showcase.
Attention now shifts to London, where Oborevwori is expected to join prominent figures from Nigerian and international sport for an evening centred on achievement, leadership and sport’s ability to transform communities.
