Victor Osimhen has been advised to leave Turkish champions Galatasaray and test himself at an even bigger European club, despite making a strong impact since arriving in Istanbul.
Key takeaways
- Former Napoli midfielder Diego Demme wants Osimhen to pursue a move to either the Premier League or La Liga.
- Demme and the Nigeria international spent four seasons together at Napoli.
- The pair helped Napoli win the 2022/23 Serie A crown, their first Scudetto in 33 years.
- Galatasaray first signed Osimhen on loan in 2024 before completing a €75 million permanent deal in 2025.
- Several leading European sides were linked with the 27-year-old during the summer transfer period.
Demme backs major-league move
Demme, Osimhen’s former Napoli colleague, believes the Super Eagles forward has the quality to play for one of the continent’s elite sides. The German played alongside Osimhen for four seasons in Naples, including during the historic 2022/23 title-winning campaign that ended Napoli’s 33-year wait for the Serie A championship.
In an interview with Ratings, Demme said a transfer to a major club in England or Spain would raise the striker’s profile and further establish him among the game’s top players.
“I believe Osimhen is very happy at Galatasaray because he appreciates the supporters and they appreciate him, but I would still like to watch him play for one of Europe’s biggest teams in a competition such as La Liga or the Premier League,” Demme said.
“I feel he needs to do that because he is an excellent striker, and he would receive greater exposure than he has in Turkey at the moment.”
Galatasaray investment and transfer interest
Osimhen initially arrived at Galatasaray from Napoli on a loan agreement in 2024. The Turkish giants then broke their club transfer record by paying €75 million to make the deal permanent in 2025.
The 27-year-old continued to attract significant attention during the summer window, when a number of leading clubs across Europe were reported to be considering a move for the Nigerian forward.
