Novak Djokovic will return to competitive tennis at next month’s Cincinnati Masters, the former world No. 1 confirmed on Thursday. The announcement comes nearly four weeks after Jannik Sinner ended his Wimbledon campaign in the semi-finals.
The Cincinnati tournament, scheduled for August 13-23, will be Djokovic’s first appearance at the event since he lifted the title in 2023.
In a message shared on the tournament’s social media channels, the 39-year-old Serb said he was delighted to be heading back to Ohio. He recalled reaching what he considered one of the three best Masters 1000 finals of his career during his previous appearance there, and said he was eager to compete in front of the fans again and welcome spectators from around the world.
Djokovic, now ranked fifth globally, will be part of a formidable field ahead of the US Open. The expected line-up also features Wimbledon champion Sinner, second-ranked Alexander Zverev and Carlos Alcaraz, who occupies third place and has been managing a wrist problem since April.
Following Cincinnati, Djokovic is anticipated to play at the US Open from August 30 to September 13, where he will pursue a record-extending 25th Grand Slam championship.
