Doma United Maintain Perfect NPFL Start with Enyimba Victory

Doma United continued their flawless beginning to the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League campaign, while Bendel Insurance, Sporting Lagos and Kwara United also secured notable victories on Matchday Three.

Doma United set the pace

Doma United defeated nine-time champions Enyimba 2-0 at Pantami Stadium in Gombe to remain top of the table, five points ahead of the chasing pack.

  • Sadiq Rilwan put Doma in front after 32 minutes.
  • Fantami Yusuf doubled the advantage in the 76th minute.
  • The victory moved Doma to nine points from three matches, with five goals scored and none conceded.
  • Rilwan has now found the net in each of the club’s three league games.
  • Enyimba are still pointless after two fixtures, having previously suffered a 2-1 defeat against Niger Tornadoes.

Barau FC rose into second place on seven points after overturning an early setback to beat Ranchers Bees 3-1 on home soil. Ahmadu Liman opened the scoring in the 29th minute, but Mohammed Rabiu Zulkifilu equalised for Ranchers in the 80th.

Barau regained control when Kennedy Otunuya scored in the third minute of stoppage time, and Sugau Aliyu completed the win from the penalty spot one minute later. Zulkifilu’s strike was his fourth of the campaign, following the hat-trick he scored in Ranchers’ earlier 4-0 triumph over Abia Warriors.

Insurance and Sporting Lagos record convincing wins

Bendel Insurance moved up to third with six points after a 4-2 success over Kun Khalifat in Benin City. Alex Oweilayefa and Suraju Lawal scored before Chinedu Nwosu added two goals, giving Insurance a commanding 4-0 lead.

Kun Khalifat reduced the deficit through Uchechukwu Onuoha’s penalty and a goal from Oghenetega Ebetomame, but the comeback fell short. They occupy 14th position with two points.

Sporting Lagos claimed local bragging rights by defeating Inter Lagos 3-0 in the Lagos derby. Sodiq Ayoade, Aliyu Baba and Valentine Ogwu were the scorers. Inter Lagos remain at the foot of the standings after losing all three of their matches.

Kwara United registered their first victory of the season with a 3-0 home-or-away success over Katsina United, moving into fourth place. Ali Ferinyaro, Tosin Olawale and Issa Gata supplied the goals.

Draws and unfinished fixture

Abia Warriors and Ikorodu City ended their meeting level at 2-2. Emeka Obioma scored both of the hosts’ goals, while Ilechukwu Junior and Akorede Adeoye replied for Ikorodu City.

The contest between Niger Tornadoes and Plateau United was halted in the 84th minute with the score tied at 1-1. The outstanding minutes are to be played at a later date.

  • Rivers United have a match in hand because of continental commitments.
  • Ikorodu City also have a game outstanding for the same reason.
  • Rangers and Shooting Stars likewise have fixtures to make up after continental involvement.
