
Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball side, D’Tigress, have launched their preparations for the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup, which will take place in Berlin, Germany, from September 4 to 13.
Camp begins in Chicago
The reigning AfroBasket holders started their opening training camp in Chicago, United States, on July 29, with the session scheduled to run through August 2.
International matches on the road
After the Chicago camp, the five-time defending African champions will fly to Haikou, China, on federation partner XEJet’s aircraft. Their programme there includes three exhibition games between August 3 and 14.
- July 29–August 2: Training camp in Chicago, USA.
- August 3–14: Three friendly fixtures in Haikou, China.
- August 15–24: Further preparation in Tenerife, Spain.
- Final stage: Warm-up matches in Zaragoza against Mali and Puerto Rico.
D’Tigress will move to Tenerife for the next phase from August 15 to 24, where they are due to play warm-up games against Spain and Belgium. Their final build-up will be held in Zaragoza, featuring meetings with Mali and Puerto Rico.
NBBF sets readiness target
Nigeria Basketball Federation President Engr. (Dr.) Ahmadu Musa Kida said the federation and its technical committee were focused on preparing the squad mentally, physically and tactically for the World Cup.
Kida also expressed appreciation to the federation’s partners, with particular recognition for XEJet’s smooth travel assistance for Nigeria’s national teams.
