
D’Tigress ended their China tour with an 88-77 victory over the host nation in Foshan yesterday, giving Nigeria’s senior women’s team a positive finish to its latest World Cup preparations.
Nigeria’s preparation schedule
- The result added to the confidence of the reigning African champions as they continue building towards the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup, which will take place in Berlin, Germany.
- Nigeria’s next assignment is a three-team tournament in Tenerife, Spain, where they will face Spain and Belgium from August 21 to 23.
- At the World Cup, Nigeria will compete in a group containing France, Hungary and South Korea. The global tournament is scheduled for September 4-13.
World Cup opponents name squads
France have assembled a formidable roster that includes Marine Johannès, Gabby Williams, Dominique Malonga, Valériane Ayayi, Marine Fauthoux, Janelle Salaün and Leïla Lacan.
Hungary’s selection features Yvonne Turner, Dorka Juhász, Réka Dombai, Virág Takács-Kiss and Ágnes Studer. South Korea have chosen 13 players, with Jihyun Park, Jisu Park, Leeseul Kang and Haeran Lee among the leading names.
D’Tigress will look to carry their encouraging run into the tournament and challenge strongly once the World Cup begins in Berlin.
