Edo Queens Face USFA in High-Stakes WAFU-B Semi-Final in Ouagadougou

Edo Queens meet Burkina Faso hosts USFA today in a decisive semi-final at the 2026 WAFU-B CAF Women’s Champions League qualifying tournament in Ouagadougou.

The Nigerian champions will play the Burkinabe representatives at Stade du 4 Août, with a final place on offer and a major step towards claiming WAFU-B’s qualification ticket for the CAF Women’s Champions League.

The Benin City outfit reached the knockout phase after placing second in Group B, collecting six points from three fixtures.

Edo Queens made a powerful start by overwhelming Niger’s AS Garde Nationale 7-0, then defeating Côte d’Ivoire’s ASEC Mimosas 3-1. Those two wins confirmed their semi-final berth with one group match still remaining.

Their winning run ended in the closing Group B encounter, however, as Ghana’s Ampem Darkoa Ladies recovered from a goal down to win 2-1.

Atume Doosuur gave Edo Queens the lead in the 11th minute. Rebecca Assemani restored parity soon after half-time, while Milot Pokuaa completed Ghana’s turnaround with a 78th-minute goal.

That result lifted Ampem Darkoa to the top of Group B on nine points, leaving them three points clear of Edo Queens.

The Nigerians now confront a challenging USFA team that went through the group stage without defeat. The Burkina Faso champions demonstrated their quality in their final Group A match, routing Togo’s ASKO de Kara 5-0 and earning a semi-final meeting with Edo Queens.

Although the loss to Ampem Darkoa interrupted their progress, Edo Queens have remained one of the tournament’s most productive attacking sides, finding the net 11 times across their three group games.

Interim coach Kennedy Boboye is confident that his squad has moved beyond that disappointment and is mentally ready for the demanding contest against the hosts.

Boboye also said the anticipated backing for USFA would not unsettle his players, stressing that Edo Queens are prepared both physically and mentally to battle for a place in the final.

Doosuur, Chioma Moses and Esther Inyang are expected to lead the Nigerian champions’ attacking efforts as Edo Queens attempt to preserve their hopes of representing the WAFU-B region at the continental finals.

Ghanaian champions Ampem Darkoa will face FC Dynamique in the other semi-final.
