The third edition of the Elevate Basketball Clinic will take place on October 17 at Rowe Park Sports Centre in Yaba, Lagos.
Elevate Basketball Academy is staging the event alongside the Lagos State Basketball Association. Since launching in 2024, the programme has quickly grown into an important platform for mentoring young people, promoting leadership and supporting youth development. Hundreds of players aged under 16 are anticipated at the one-day clinic, underlining its expanding profile and impact.
For Akinwande Oshodi, the United States-based founder and sponsor, the clinic is a personal effort to help Nigerian youngsters gain important life lessons through basketball. Oshodi says the sport taught him discipline, determination and the value of working as part of a team, and he wants to share those lessons with a new generation. The academy views basketball as more than a sporting activity, using it to encourage individual progress, build character and strengthen community engagement. Its aim is for participants to develop confidence and resilience that will serve them well away from the court.
Programme coordinator Gbade Olatona said the consistent increase in attendance demonstrates the clinic’s influence among young people throughout Lagos State. He added that producing talented players is not the sole purpose of the initiative, which also seeks to nurture future leaders, conscientious citizens and young people capable of making positive contributions. Through ongoing community engagement and carefully developed partnerships, Elevate Basketball Academy continues to position the sport as a link between ambition and opportunity for Nigerian youth.
