Preparations for Nigeria’s 23rd National Sports Festival, titled the “Coal City Games, Enugu 2026,” are moving into a decisive stage as the Main Organising Committee (MOC) and Local Organising Committee (LOC) step up their work ahead of the event.
Inspection programme set for Enugu
- The MOC team is due to arrive in Enugu on August 25.
- On August 26 and 27, officials will conduct a detailed review of sporting venues and other essential infrastructure.
- The assessment will cover competition and practice facilities, accommodation, transport and logistics plans, auxiliary infrastructure, and other operational needs.
- The exercise will allow the two organising committees to evaluate the progress made so far, highlight outstanding issues and determine the steps needed to complete all required facilities on time.
- National Sports Commission (NSC) Director General and MOC chairman Hon. Bukola Olopade will head the commission’s delegation during the Enugu visit.
- The programme will conclude on August 28, when the LOC is scheduled to reveal the official logo and mascot for the Coal City Games.
Joint preparations
The inspection forms part of the NSC’s ongoing partnership with the Enugu State Government, aimed at keeping preparations on schedule and ensuring they satisfy the standards expected of Nigeria’s leading multi-sport competition.
The NSC said it was confident that cooperation between the MOC and LOC would produce a successful festival that meets internationally recognised benchmarks and contributes further to Nigeria’s sporting legacy.
