
A 27-year-old former convict has been detained in connection with alleged motorcycle-based robberies aimed at Point-of-Sale operators and other residents in Awka, the Anambra State capital.
Police said Anthony Eleh, also known as “Timaya,” was arrested by operatives on Friday, October 9, 2026. Investigators are examining claims that he took part in a string of offences involving motorcycles.

During the operation, officers seized a motorcycle, an axe and a cutlass, along with further items believed to be connected to the suspected criminal activity.
The arrest formed part of continued intelligence-driven operations targeting people linked to motorcycle-facilitated robberies and related crimes across the state.
Eleh remains in police custody while the investigation continues. Officers are seeking to establish the full scale of his suspected role and trace any possible accomplices.
Commissioner of Police Nnanna Oji Ama said the command remained committed to safeguarding lives and property, while ensuring that those responsible for criminal offences face justice under the law.
Members of the public, especially POS agents, commercial motorcycle riders and business operators, have been urged to stay alert and quickly report suspicious activity or movements at the nearest police station.
