Nigeria Football Federation Executive Committee member Aisha Falode has appealed to Nigerians to continue supporting the Super Falcons after their underwhelming result against Malawi at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, stressing that the team can still achieve its targets.
Falode acknowledged that the outcome was below the expectations of both the players and the country, but said it should not be allowed to overshadow the squad’s ability, its mission at the tournament or the nation’s longstanding faith in the team.
The FIFA Media Committee member said Nigeria entered the competition pursuing two major ambitions: qualifying for the FIFA Women’s World Cup and winning the WAFCON title for an unprecedented 11th time. With the tournament still underway, she believes neither objective has been lost.
Falode calls for renewed support
She said the Falcons still had opportunities ahead of them, with each remaining fixture offering a chance to show their resilience and true quality.
Falode urged supporters to encourage the players instead of directing criticism at them following the setback. She called for uncertainty to be replaced by confidence, negative reaction by constructive backing, and frustration by hope.
“The players must feel that the country continues to trust them,” Falode said, adding that meaningful support should not appear only after victories.
Despite the disappointing result, she maintained that the Super Falcons remain Africa’s leading force in women’s football. Falode pointed to their history of overcoming difficult moments at previous tournaments and said she expected this squad to produce a similar response.
