Romelu Lukaku is leaving Italy’s Serie A for the Turkish Super Lig after Fenerbahce confirmed the Belgian forward’s arrival.
The Istanbul club did not reveal the transfer fee, although Italian reports said the deal was worth €6 million ($6.92 million), with additional bonuses linked to his performances. Lukaku previously played for Chelsea, Manchester United and Inter Milan.
“Joining this club is both an honour and a privilege, especially one with such a remarkable history,” the 33-year-old told Fenerbahce supporters in a video message.
Lukaku lifted the Serie A trophy with Napoli in the 2024-25 season, but his most recent campaign was severely disrupted by fitness problems. He made only seven appearances in all competitions.
Despite those difficulties, the striker was selected by Belgium for the World Cup, where the team progressed to the quarter-finals and Lukaku scored three goals.
“I’m grateful to the coach for showing faith in me, initially as a person and then for what I can contribute on the pitch. I am fully fit and ready to begin,” Lukaku said.
He also described the move as an emotional return to Turkey, where he spent part of his childhood and first encountered professional football through his father. Roger Lukaku played for Gençlerbirligi.
“Returning after so many years will be a special and deeply moving experience. I feel very proud to be coming back with Fenerbahce,” he said.
Fenerbahce ended last season as runners-up, finishing three points behind champions Galatasaray. Their new league campaign starts on Saturday against Genclerbirligi.
