FIFA to Inspect 2030 World Cup Host City Candidates This Winter

FIFA will begin visiting prospective host cities across Spain, Portugal and Morocco in November and December as it continues the stadium selection process for the 2030 World Cup.

A FIFA delegation is due to inspect the proposed cities and venues in each of the three co-hosting nations, assessing whether they meet the requirements to stage tournament matches.

The final selection of stadiums has not yet been confirmed. FIFA has also not decided the location for the World Cup final, with Spain and Morocco competing to host the game that will conclude football’s biggest tournament.

The planned inspections include Agadir, Casablanca, Fez, Marrakech, Rabat and Tangier in Morocco; Lisbon and Porto in Portugal; and Barcelona, Bilbao, Las Palmas, Madrid, San Sebastian, Seville and Zaragoza in Spain. FIFA has indicated that further proposed venues could also be inspected during the process.

Match allocations, including the categories of fixtures each stadium will host, will not be decided until the definitive host-city list is approved and work advances on the competition schedule.

The opening three matches of the 2030 World Cup will take place in Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay to mark the tournament’s 100th anniversary. The inaugural World Cup was staged in Uruguay in 1930.
