Four young Nigerian players took part for Slavia Prague in Tuesday night’s UEFA Champions League meeting with Fenerbahce, providing another notable indication of the country’s rising talent on Europe’s premier club stage.
Emmanuel Ayaosi, Mubarak Suleiman and David Moses were selected from the start by the Czech champions, while Samuel Isife was introduced after the interval.
Ayaosi played a key role in Slavia’s 2-2 draw, setting up one of the goals as the visitors collected their first point of the Champions League group campaign.
The stalemate brought a measure of encouragement for Slavia Prague, who had lost their two earlier matches in the competition against RC Lens and Sabah.
The involvement of all four Nigerians underlined the increasing visibility of young players from the country in European club football. Ayaosi was especially important as Slavia came away with a valuable result on the road.
His assist also gave him another platform to demonstrate his attacking ability at the highest level of the European game.
As the group stage moves forward, Slavia Prague will aim to use the Fenerbahce draw as a foundation for improved results. Ayaosi, Suleiman, Moses and Isife will likewise hope to remain involved and make further contributions to the team’s campaign.
