Glo Rocket, representing Globacom’s Sales Force and Value Added Services Department, claimed victory over Strikers FC in Saturday’s final of the company’s inter-departmental football competition. The match formed part of the telecommunications firm’s 23rd-anniversary sports fiesta at The Stable in Surulere, Lagos.
Strikers FC combined employees from the Rollout, Information Systems, Gloworld Development and E-Pin departments, but their bid for the title ended in defeat. The team had also strengthened its squad with colleagues recruited from outside Lagos.
The champions were presented with a giant trophy and ₦1 million in prize money, while Strikers FC received ₦750,000 for finishing second. Medals went to players from both finalists, as well as to winners in the other competitions, who were also rewarded with medals and cash prizes.
Held under the name Glo Fitfest 2026, the anniversary celebration grouped employees into clusters intended to build team spirit and encourage stronger connections between departments. In addition to football, the programme featured table tennis, Big Ludo, Big Snooker, Beer Pong, a Sack Race and Big Ayo, with the football contest billed as the centrepiece of the day.
Employees wore commemorative T-shirts as they joined the light-hearted contests marking more than 20 years of the company’s operations. The gathering gave staff an opportunity to step away from their usual work schedules before the festivities concluded with dancing and celebrations.
