
Grassrunners FC and Abakaliki FC have reached the final of the 14th Ogunjobi Gold Cup after recording semi-final victories yesterday.

Grassrunners, appearing in the tournament for the first time and still unbeaten, will aim to complete their outstanding run by lifting the trophy. Standing in their way is an Abakaliki side that has also impressed throughout the competition.
Sunshine Stars made the brighter start in the opening semi-final, taking the lead in the 15th minute through Onoja Mathew.
Grassrunners found a response after the interval. Agbejoye Papi restored parity in the 58th minute with a finish from a challenging angle.
Papi completed his double four minutes from the end, moving Grassrunners in front in the 86th minute. Adeola Fadel then sealed the turnaround with the team’s third goal in the 89th minute.
The other semi-final was similarly competitive, with Ikorodu City going ahead in the 11th minute through Ayanda Tolulope.
Abakaliki soon levelled through Moses Amanekwu, who registered his second goal of the tournament.
Amarachukwu Uche completed Abakaliki’s comeback in the 48th minute, producing a composed finish from a corner to secure the 2-1 result.
Grassrunners FC and Abakaliki FC will now contest a winner-takes-all showdown for the 14th Ogunjobi Gold Cup.
