  • Dates: August 14-16
  • Expected attendance: More than 150 participants and guests
  • Headline prize: A new Chery Tiggo 8 Pro in the Hole-in-One Challenge

Tournament convener Folarin Laosun told reporters in Ibadan that the event has become one of the country’s leading amateur golf championships. He said its role now extends beyond competition, supporting sports tourism, corporate collaboration and wider economic growth.

This year’s tournament is being staged by Openfield Properties & Management Ltd, the developer of Oluyole Golf & Country Estate in Moniya, Ibadan, with backing from a number of corporate organisations.

Laosun said the championship’s standing had risen steadily during its five-year history, drawing leading amateur golfers and respected business partners from across Nigeria.

He called the fifth edition a significant point in the tournament’s development and said the long-term ambition was to create a world-class amateur event that rewards excellence, deepens partnerships and makes a meaningful contribution to sports tourism and the economy.

Laosun also expressed appreciation to the sponsors, partners and wider golf community whose backing has helped the competition continue to grow.

The programme opens on Friday, August 14, with a practice round followed by a welcome cocktail for competitors, sponsors, invited guests and media representatives.

Qualifying play is set for Saturday. Later that day, players and guests will attend the Oluyole Owambe Night, which will feature Nigerian cultural presentations, live music and opportunities to build business and social connections.

Sunday will bring the finals and the presentation of awards, with the leading performers receiving their honours at the closing ceremony.

A Hole-in-One Challenge will provide an additional highlight. Any golfer who completes the feat will have the opportunity to win a brand-new Chery Tiggo 8 Pro, supplied by official automotive partner Carloha Nigeria.

Openfield Properties & Management Ltd is presenting the championship. Its principal sponsors are Leadway Assurance, Guinness Nigeria Plc, Risevest, Mamuda Group, Shoreline Natural Resources Ltd., AMNI International Petroleum Development Company Limited and CKROWD.

Carloha Nigeria, operating as Chery Nigeria, is the official automotive partner, while Kasi Sports Healthcare serves as the official healthcare partner.

The briefing was attended by Niyi Abiola, Head of Brand and Communications at Leadway Assurance; Engr. Oladapo Olaide, Competition Secretary of Ibadan Golf Club; and Captain (Father) Joachim Akee, the club’s captain. Former captain M.O. Ojo, Carloha Nigeria General Manager for Marketing Felix Mahan and Kayode Adebayo, representing Openfield Properties & Management Ltd, were also present.

Since its launch, the Oluyole Amateur Open has supported amateur golf, youth development, sports tourism and long-term corporate partnerships. It has also helped strengthen Ibadan’s reputation as one of Nigeria’s foremost golfing destinations.
