Former Nigeria international and experienced coach Kadiri Ikhana has urged authorities to investigate the tenure of Ibrahim Musa Gusau’s administration after the Nigeria Football Federation leadership resigned.
Ikhana, who was part of Nigeria’s squad that won the 1980 Africa Cup of Nations, insisted that the board’s departure should not end scrutiny of its financial dealings or administrative record. He said the former officials must explain how funds were used during their time in office and address the issues he believes contributed to Nigeria’s recent football failures.
“Resigning cannot be the end of the matter,” Ikhana said. “There was a great deal of money spent during their tenure, and the public must know what happened to it. The poor administration also played a part in Nigeria missing two World Cups.”
He added that Nigerians deserved full accountability and called for either the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission or the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission to investigate the former officials. Ikhana said every payment made to the administration should be accounted for.
Another former Nigeria international, Felix Owolabi, voiced his frustration over the condition of football in the country and said he hoped the incoming leadership would tackle the unresolved problems.
Owolabi labelled the decline “shameful” and appealed for a fresh administration that could rebuild trust and restore belief in Nigeria’s football system.
