Ikoyi Club 1938’s Swimming Section will hold its Categorisation Time Trials 1 (CTT1) at the National Stadium in Lagos, with around 100 young swimmers expected to take part.
Key assessment for the IC Marlins
- The trials have been scheduled as a two-day competition, beginning at 10:00am on Saturday, September 10, and continuing through Sunday, October 11.
- The event forms an important evaluation stage in the club’s 2026/2027 swimming development programme.
- It will allow coaches to assess the athletes’ progress, recognise improvements and pinpoint aspects requiring further work.
- Performances could also earn certain swimmers promotion into a higher training group.
Akin Onabolu, chairman of the club’s swimming section, said preparations had been completed for the competition.
Swimmers will race in all four recognised strokes, over a range of distances, as well as in Individual Medley events. Onabolu said the format would give the coaching staff a fuller picture of every athlete’s growth instead of judging them on a single discipline.
“We expect improved displays, several personal bests and faster times across the categories,” Onabolu said, adding that the trials should help swimmers within the IC Marlins set-up move forward in their development.
He stressed that the meet would not be judged solely by the times recorded, saying it is intended to help each swimmer measure their own progress, gain self-belief, strengthen their competitive approach and keep working towards their potential.
