The 65th staging of the long-running amateur tournament will be held on the verdant Ikoyi Club 1938 layout in Lagos from November 16 to November 22, 2026.
Run through FirstBank’s first@sports programme, the leading event will bring together some of Africa’s strongest amateur players as they compete for the title and valuable World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) points.
Organisers expect the championship to provide a memorable display of ability and high-level amateur golf.
Defending champion’s breakthrough
- At last year’s tournament, Babatunde Oyalami of Osun State emerged as the standout performer, lifting the prestigious trophy with a 54-hole aggregate of 231.
- Oyalami opened with a 78, followed it with a 75 in round two and signed off with another 78.
- His total secured a three-stroke victory in the 64th edition of the competition.
- Encouraged by that achievement, Oyalami is now targeting a move into professional golf, following a path taken by several previous winners.
As anticipation builds for the next championship, FirstBank has reiterated its commitment to contributing to Nigeria’s socio-economic progress through a range of sporting initiatives.
