The 2026 ITTF Africa Youth Championships are poised to deliver a tense, high-stakes finale, with the continent’s leading young squads set to fight for podium positions at the Borteyman Sports Complex in Accra, Ghana. With multiple teams already exiting the competition, today’s slate promises sharp rivalries and must-win pressure.

  • U-19 girls semifinals: Egypt vs Uganda; Nigeria vs Algeria.

In the U-15 girls’ competition, Egypt, Nigeria, Tunisia, and Algeria enter the business end as the leading seeds and will now vie for final berths. Egypt renews a familiar rivalry with Nigeria in the first semifinal, setting the tone for what is expected to be a closely contested match. Defending champions Algeria take on Tunisia in the other semifinal, with both sides chasing a spot in the final.

The U-19 boys’ event has already produced plenty of momentum, and the latest quarterfinals underlined the intensity. Nigeria sent the home crowd into silence with a commanding 3-0 win over host Ghana, turning the tie into a statement performance.

The opening match delivered the biggest twist of the session. Ghana’s Israel Aklie raced into a 2-0 advantage against Nigeria’s Quadri Atunwon, seemingly on course for a breakthrough. Atunwon steadied the ship, however, mounting a rally to take the match 3-2 and swing the contest firmly Nigeria’s way.

Matthew Fabunmi and Sultan Agunbiade then completed the job with straight-sets wins over their respective Ghanaian opponents, ensuring Nigeria finished the quarterfinal without dropping a set. Egypt also made a strong impression, brushing aside Uganda 3-0 after Joseph Sebantidira briefly threatened to upset the rhythm early on.

Tunisia meanwhile overpowered Togo 3-0, while Algeria had to dig deeper to edge South Africa 3-1. With the quarterfinals wrapped, the U-19 boys’ semifinal line-up is set: Nigeria will face Tunisia, and Algeria will meet Egypt for a place in the final.

In the U-19 girls’ category, defending champions Egypt will take on Uganda in the next round, aiming to keep their title bid on track. Nigeria’s semifinal opponent is Algeria, with both match-ups carrying the kind of high-stakes tension that often defines youth tournaments at this stage.
