Alex Iwobi marked a significant Premier League milestone by scoring Fulham’s decisive goal in Saturday’s 1-0 win over Hull City at Craven Cottage, drawing level with Peter Odemwingie on 36 goals in the competition.
The 30-year-old is now tied for sixth place among Nigeria’s leading Premier League scorers of all time. His match-winning contribution also eased the pressure after Fulham’s challenging opening to the campaign.
“It is a huge relief for everybody — the players, the manager and the supporters,” Iwobi said. “For several weeks, we believed our displays had merited more points than we had collected. To finally get our first victory, particularly in front of our own fans, is an incredible feeling.”
Iwobi struck in the first half from beyond the penalty area, with his shot taking a small deflection before beating Hull goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis at the near post.
The finish was Iwobi’s first goal of the 2026-27 season and arrived at an important moment for Fulham, who had endured several winless weeks despite believing their performances had warranted better results. He also praised the Craven Cottage supporters for continuing to back the side.
The result delivered Álvaro Arbeloa’s first Premier League victory as Fulham manager, although he felt his team’s display had been consistent with their recent outings.
“I feel exactly as I did after the other matches: we controlled the game and created the better opportunities,” Arbeloa said.
He commended his squad’s resilience against Hull, describing the visitors as “very physical, very direct and very dangerous on the counter-attack”. Arbeloa added that his players had maintained their faith during the difficult run. “The players trust our ideas and continue playing the way we want, even when we were losing matches,” he said.
Arbeloa also underlined the value of players not included in the matchday squad, calling them “so important for the group”, while offering his appreciation to Fulham’s fans. “I am so pleased for the supporters because they deserve this victory,” he said.
Fulham’s demanding upcoming schedule includes matches against Coventry, Crystal Palace and Aston Villa.
