The Nigeria Football Federation has applauded Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi after he matched Mohamed Salah as the second most-capped African footballer in Premier League history.
Iwobi, 30, brought his total to 328 English top-flight appearances in Fulham’s 1-0 win against Coventry City. The Nigerian playmaker spent 73 minutes on the pitch, recording 60 touches and completing 86.3 per cent of his passes.
His latest appearance puts him level with Egypt star Salah and leaves him 25 games short of the African Premier League record. That mark remains held by former Ivory Coast defender Kolo Toure, who made 353 appearances in the competition.
NFF Acting General Secretary Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme MON congratulated the ex-Arsenal and Everton player, saying: “The NFF celebrates Alex Iwobi for this new achievement and we wish him even greater glory. We will be very happy to see him become the African with the most appearances in the Premier League in the near future.”
The milestone continues a notable spell for the Africa Cup of Nations medallist, who recently reached 100 caps for Nigeria in a friendly match against Portugal.
