Jaiyeola added to leadership group
The announcement was contained in a statement signed by Onikeku on Wednesday.
Onikeku explained that Jaiyeola’s appointment reflected his proven ability to lead and his background at both international and club level. The player recently captained Nigeria’s senior men’s team during its successful qualification campaign for the African Nations Championship qualifiers in Abidjan.
He said Jaiyeola had repeatedly shown outstanding leadership for the national team and his club, adding that the player’s commitment and experience made him a fitting choice for the Customs leadership structure.
Jaiyeola has also previously worn the Customs colours at the 2021 African Men’s Club Championship in Tunisia.
Customs urged to build on first-phase display
Akande will continue to serve as captain, while Udah remains first assistant captain and Okoi stays in the second assistant role.
Onikeku commended the team for its impressive showing during the first phase of the competition and called on the players to preserve their discipline and collective approach.
He said the squad would need to match its efforts with greater hard work, cooperation and consistency to accomplish its objectives in the remainder of the league.
