Jeremy Doku Commits Future to Manchester City in New Long-Term Deal

Jeremy Doku has committed his long-term future to Manchester City by signing a new five-year contract with the Premier League champions.

Key takeaways

  • The Belgium international has recorded 22 goals and 34 assists across 131 appearances for City.
  • His honours in Manchester include the Premier League, Club World Cup, FA Cup and League Cup.
  • Doku, who has 48 caps for Belgium, represented his country at the latest World Cup.
  • His deal keeps him at the Etihad Stadium until at least 2031, ahead of the August 21 Premier League opener.
  • New manager Enzo Maresca’s attacking approach played a significant role in Doku’s decision to remain at the club.

Doku extends his City stay

The 24-year-old winger has become one of the division’s most dangerous and unpredictable attackers since moving to City from Rennes in 2023.

During his time with the club, Doku has found the net 22 times and created 34 goals in 131 matches. He has also collected major silverware, contributing to City’s successes in the Premier League, Club World Cup, FA Cup and League Cup.

Doku has established himself on the international stage as well, winning 48 Belgium caps and appearing for the Red Devils at the most recent World Cup.

Retaining him through at least 2031 gives Maresca a major boost as he prepares City for the new Premier League season, which begins on August 21.

Maresca succeeded Pep Guardiola as head coach at the Etihad, and Doku said the Italian’s football philosophy helped convince him to make a fresh commitment to City.

“My time at City has been brilliant, and being able to continue here for several more years is a great feeling,” Doku said. “This club is extremely important to me. I have grown both professionally and personally, I feel at home, and the daily work of the staff continues to help me improve.

“I am very enthusiastic about the new campaign with Enzo in charge. The way he wants us to play is the type of football we enjoy, which is exciting for everyone in the squad.”

Viana praises winger’s progress

City director of football Hugo Viana said Doku’s development since his arrival had been obvious and described him as an outstanding talent.

“Jeremy has a distinctive explosiveness and possesses the qualities we want from a wide player,” Viana said. “He adds something exceptional to the team.

“This contract is fully deserved, and I am confident that he will keep progressing over the months and years ahead.”
