Joao Pedro has agreed a new Chelsea contract that will keep the striker at Stamford Bridge until 2032, with the club holding an option to extend the deal by a further two years.
The improved agreement replaces the terms of the contract he signed when he moved from Brighton for £60 million a year ago. That original deal was also due to expire in 2032, but included only a 12-month extension option. The new terms reflect Pedro’s influence during his first season in west London, which he completed with 20 goals.
“I am very happy to sign a new contract with Chelsea,” Pedro said. “Playing for a big club was always a dream of mine, so making a long-term commitment here means a lot. Chelsea have a proud winning history and huge ambitions for the years ahead.
“I have built a very good relationship with everyone at the club, and I have felt at home in London since the day I arrived.
“There is a lot of excitement around this season. We know we are capable of achieving great things, because we have a strong squad and a coach who is determined to win and has already done so. I am completely committed, everyone is prepared, and hopefully we can reach our objectives.”
Chelsea’s wage structure generally means players receive lower guaranteed basic salaries than they could command at some other clubs.
