Nigerian midfielder John Otomewo has joined French Ligue 2 outfit Stade de Reims from Israeli Premier League club Hapoel Jerusalem, completing a switch that takes him into the European second tier.
The Sapele-born playmaker has signed a five-year contract with Reims, with the deal set to run until June 2031. The transfer fee for the move has not been made public.
Introduced to the club following his arrival, Otomewo framed the transfer as a significant career step and outlined his ambition to help Reims move back into France’s top division.
What Otomewo said after joining
Otomewo told supporters he was excited by the opportunity and ready to contribute immediately.
“I’m happy to join Stade de Reims. This is a big move for me, and I’m ready to give my all for the team,” he said.
He added that the move to France should accelerate his development, both in his role and overall approach to the game.
“This is another big step in my career. I believe playing in France will help me improve as a midfielder and develop my overall game.”
Otomewo also made clear what he believes is the club’s priority for the season.
“The main goal is to help Stade de Reims return to Ligue 1 next season.”
