Former Liverpool winger Jordon Ibe has been convicted of assault occasioning actual bodily harm after admitting that he pulled a braid from his former partner’s hair during an argument in December.
Guilty plea and court sentence
Ibe, 30, entered a guilty plea over the incident. The dispute reportedly began when his former partner confronted him and asked him to return money that he owed her.
A court in Croydon, London, sentenced Ibe on Friday to a fine and 80 hours of unpaid community work, which must be completed within 12 months.
Impact on his former partner
In a statement read to the court, Ibe’s former partner said the assault had affected her significantly, both physically and psychologically.
Ibe accepts responsibility
- Ibe said he had made a serious error.
- He acknowledged that his conduct was wrong and expressed genuine regret.
- The former player said the incident had forced him to confront his own behaviour.
- Although he accepted that he could not undo what happened, he pledged to take responsibility for his actions going forward.
Ibe had previously been wanted by former Nigeria head coach Sunday Oliseh for the Super Eagles.
