The Karate Federation of Nigeria (KFN), led by its newly elected President Engr. (Dr.) Chukwudi Dimkpa, has lifted Dave Jegede’s suspension and appointed him Technical Director.
Key decisions from the board meeting
- The decision was taken during the board’s first meeting under Dimkpa on Thursday at the Rooftop Conference Hall of the Check-Inn Hotel in Wuse II, Abuja.
- The board created several committees to support its programmes. Florrie Omueti will chair Marketing, Sponsorship, Partnership and Finance, while Zainab Saleh will lead Organising, Competition and Welfare. Bashari Maizari was selected to head Ethics and Disciplinary, and Oluwasogo Ogunleye will oversee Youth, School Sports and Women.
- James Aina was appointed chairman of the Technical Committee, with Olusegun Akinola taking charge of the Nigeria Karate Referee Commission. The board also approved the Nigeria Karate Coaches Association, Nigeria Para-Karate Commission, National Grading/Homologation Committee, Nigeria University Karate Association and Nigerian Karate League Commission as further technical and development bodies. The Secretary General will issue the formal appointment letters.
- Ohis Asein, chief executive of FAKS Media, was named the federation’s Head of Media. Amakiri Oruamabo was added to the KFN Board and appointed chairman of the newly approved Nigerian Karate League Commission. The board also granted technical clearance for the proposed Nigerian Karate League.
- Nigeria’s entry in the UFAK African Championship in Algeria from 6–13 September 2026 received approval. Technical and administrative officials were instructed to start preparations for Team Nigeria. The board also confirmed that the previously issued notification to the World Karate Federation and the Union of African Karate Federations about the leadership change had been ratified.
- A programme covering the period from August 2026 through August 2027 was endorsed to structure the federation’s competitions and development work. Preparations for the Japanese Ambassador’s Karate Championship were also considered.
- The board gave provisional approval for facilitation payments linked to sponsorships secured successfully. However, it rejected the use of an automatic or standard percentage, stating that each arrangement would be assessed individually.
- The Secretary General and the Directors of ICT were instructed to recover administrative access to the KFN website and social-media accounts, restore and update the platforms, and protect them as the federation’s official communication channels.
- The board reiterated that formal administrative letters must come through the Secretary General. It said press briefings, public comments and promotional communication on behalf of KFN may only be issued by the President, Vice Presidents or other officials specifically empowered under the KFN Constitution. No board member, committee, commission or other person is permitted to make a statement that claims to speak for, or commit, the federation without the required authorisation.
Dimkpa said the session marked an important move in the federation’s effort to regain direction. He appealed for unity, professionalism, accountability and full compliance with the KFN Constitution, while urging Nigeria’s karate community to put past disagreements aside and work towards a stronger federation.
