
Kwara United and Nasarawa United have reached the semi-finals of the 2026 Gusau/Ahlan Cup after overcoming Niger Tornadoes and Katsina United respectively at Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina yesterday.
Kwara United, known as the Harmony Boys, advanced after a tense quarter-final finished 1-1 following regulation time. They eventually prevailed 8-7 in the penalty shootout, converting eight of their nine efforts, while Niger Tornadoes scored with seven of their nine attempts.
The victory puts Kwara United into the final four, where they will meet Nasarawa United in the next round of the pre-season competition.
Nasarawa United secured their own semi-final place by defeating hosts Katsina United in another penalty decider. The Solid Miners won 4-3 from the spot after the match also ended level at 1-1 after 90 minutes.
Nasarawa United kept their composure during the shootout, scoring four of their five penalties. Katsina United, meanwhile, converted three, bringing their run in the Gusau/Ahlan pre-season tournament to a disappointing close.
