The National Executive Council of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria has installed a three-member caretaker body for Lagos SWAN, assigning it to stabilise the chapter and begin preparations for a credible election.
Three-month caretaker mandate
The interim committee has been given a three-month tenure and will be chaired by Vanguard journalist Patrick Omorodion.
- Patrick Omorodion of Vanguard will serve as chairman.
- Oni Afolabi of Sure FM has been named secretary.
- Anulika Menanya of the Voice of Nigeria is the third member.
The appointments became effective immediately through a letter dated October 11 and signed by SWAN National Secretary Ikenna Okonkwo.
Leadership and election responsibilities
SWAN National President Isaiah Benjamin said Omorodion had been selected because of his background and ability to offer dependable direction at an important moment for the Lagos State chapter.
The caretaker panel has been instructed to handle a number of key assignments, including:
- Retrieving, protecting and properly recording every asset belonging to Lagos SWAN.
- Bringing members of the state chapter together.
- Working with the National Secretariat to confirm and revise the membership register for the election.
- Helping to set up the Lagos State SWAN Electoral Committee, known as SWANECO, in line with the association’s constitution.
- Organising the groundwork for an election that is free and fair.
- Consulting stakeholders to strengthen trust and secure a calm handover process.
National support pledged
Benjamin called on the committee members to carry out their assignment with fairness, commitment and care, while assuring the panel of the full backing of the national SWAN leadership.
