Late Abdulkareem Strike Gives Bayelsa Queens Victory Over Edo Queens

Bayelsa Queens edged Edo Queens 1-0 at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa yesterday, tightening the race at the top of Group A in the Governor Douye Diri Women’s Pre-Season Football Tournament.

Late strike settles tight Group A contest

The match appeared destined to end without a goal until Ramotalahi Abdulkareem found the breakthrough in the 86th minute. Edo Queens had created chances before half-time but could not convert them, and the late setback handed them their first loss in three matches.

Bayelsa remain unbeaten after three games and have collected seven points without conceding. They are still second in the section, however, one point behind Delta Queens, who have completed one more fixture.

Delta finish group stage unbeaten

Delta Queens preserved their advantage with a 1-0 success against C2E Sports Academy in the other Group A game. Their four-match campaign ended with eight points, built from two victories and two draws, while they remained undefeated.

  • C2E Sports Academy occupy fourth place with three points.
  • Imo Strikers are last without a point after sitting out the latest round.
  • Edo Queens are third on four points, having recorded one win, one draw and one defeat.

Edo’s concluding group fixture against Imo Strikers on Thursday will give coach Moses Aduku another chance to evaluate his players before the new Nigeria Women Football League season begins. Bayelsa still have one match to play and will overtake Delta if they win it.

Nasarawa move up as Group B leaders stay perfect

Nasarawa Amazons climbed to second in Group B by beating Rivers Angels 1-0. Rivers have not won in three outings and are yet to find the net, although they have allowed only one goal.

Remo Stars Ladies and Rangers Women shared the points in a 1-1 draw in the section’s other Matchday Four fixture. The result was Remo’s third stalemate in four games, placing them third with three points. Rangers are fifth on two points, level with fourth-placed Rivers Angels but behind them on goal difference.

Ahudiyannem FC did not play in the round but continue to dominate Group B. They have won each of their three matches, scoring six times and conceding once, to reach nine points and open a five-point gap over Nasarawa Amazons.
