Ryan Alebiosu was left disappointed after a contentious stoppage-time penalty prevented Blackburn Rovers from opening their Championship campaign with a win over Wolves.
Blackburn held a 2-1 advantage and looked on course to claim all three points until a handball call involving the Super Eagles right-back awarded Wolves a spot-kick. Raúl Jiménez kept his composure to score in added time, earning the newly relegated Premier League club a 2-2 draw.
Alebiosu, who was selected as the match’s Man of the Match, said he felt the incident occurred outside the penalty area and that the ball had struck his arm there. “It is frustrating because everyone worked so hard for the victory, but the decision went against us,” he said.
Nevertheless, the defender took encouragement from Blackburn’s display. He believes that reproducing that standard consistently over the course of the season could put Rovers in a strong position to compete near the top of the Championship.
